With its 42mm Maxi case, it’s just too big for my taste. Well, the large 42mm case size has been off-putting for many, considering that its predecessor, the Ref. 16570, was a more agreeable 40mm. Then there’s the “maxi dial”, which some people love, but purists tend to turn their noses up at. The updates track fairly consistently with those of last year’s updated Submariner, whose principal differentiating factors were a redesigned case with narrower lugs and the arrival of the souped up automatic Rolex movement featuring a Chronergy escapement, guaranteeing a lengthier power reserve.
To stay proportional with its increased size, the 24-hour hand has also been enlarged to match the Maxi dial and the larger 42mm case. While they look very similar, the key difference between this generation of 24-hour hand and the one on the original model is in regards to functionality.
