The Mi Box S doesn't passtrhough TrueHD/DTS-HDMA streams, that's the reason why it's transcoding them to stereo. But it will passtrough AAC/PCM 5.1 streams directly to your AVR. Some people said the original Mi Box supports TrueHD/DTS-HMA passtrough but I can't confirm it, but one Android TV device really supporting this is the Nvidia Shield. I've connected via HDMI to my receiver which only support DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1, before this i needed kodi for eac3 and dts 5.1 else my receiver only do 2.0. Now dts 5.1 shows as dts 5.1 and eac3 decode as DD 5.1. It only outputs 2 channels. .
