No expert, but it sounds like, after 20 years, the threads on the crown and/or the crown tube are worn enough that they don't mate tightly anymore. It's a simple fix for a watchmaker, but it will require OEM parts so it won't be a dirt-cheap fix.I've taken great care of it, but recently, I encountered an issue where the crown wouldn't scr.

I've taken great care of it, but recently, I encountered an issue where the crown . The heavy winding is because the crown stem is also turning the rotor which is also why you can feel it. It won't fit itself and needs Breitling attention. The inability to screw in the crown is probably related, worst case the heavy winding has caused a bend in the crow stem and threads are no longer aligned.
Now, warranty is usually 2 years, so I’m not sure where they got 3 years. I am waiting on a reply from her since 4 is an incredibly large amount of money to fix a broken crown stem. If its costing that much to fix whatever it is sounds like it should be under warranty, unless they smashed the watch against some pavement or something. The usual issue is stripped threads - more of an issue with the Aeromarine range because the crown tube is integral to the middle case so more costly to address if it's not under warranty. Liked in: 0 post. The crown on my Breitling B-1 is stuck, it doesn't pull out anymore (to the so-called position 2) to set the time/date. Turning the crown for changing functions and pushing it for backlighting the digital displays still work fine. I replaced the battery on my B-1 myself a few months ago.
The fundamental problem (and likely the reason why titanium watches disappeared from Breitling's range) is that Breitling used the cheaper, and less resilient, Grade 2 Ti rather than Grade 5 Ti that is used by some other manufacturers. It costs more but is much more resilient. Gr2 is not necessarily cheaper than Gr5. These are engaged / disengaged via the crown stem - wheels / cogs that the crown stem passes through and a spring loaded clutch that engages with a cog. Marty (onewatchnut) is far more qualified than I am to diagnose specifically what the problem is, but my guess is that the clutch is no longer properly seated and is causing it to jam. To get an update of the power reserve you turn the crown to diplay 'battery' and then press the top pusher to update the percentage of battery remaining. I have dive watches both type, some winding the movement in this case, some have a system in the crown which disconnect from the movement when I push and screw in the crown. Since this Breitling has a quite small crown the operation is not comfortable. I much appreciate any opinions or experience with this model. Many Thanks Csaba

Threads can strip on absolutely any watch with a screw-in crown, but it's far more of an issue with grade 2 titanium that Breitling used to use for the old model Seawolf and others. You'd be no more likely to suffer a stripped thread on an SS Seawolf than on an SS Rolex, or an SS Omega, or SS JLC, or any other SS watch.
